In focus groups, non-voters often excitedly suggest systemic changes that could turn up the turnout. 50% would nix the electoral college (a majority of voters agree with them), and many describe the voting process as easy but inconvenient and ripe for reinvention.

Income has long been a leading indicator of interest in voting— with non-voters more likely to be unemployed. Similarly, 29% of American voters have a household income over $100k, compared to just 13% of non-voters. (Note: this research was conducted shortly before the pandemic).

With over 31M ballots already cast, some election experts like Nate Silver (@fivethirtyeight) & Prof. Michael McDonald at the U.S. Elections Project project that 150M votes could be cast this year. If they’re right, we may have to re-name this project on November 4th. 😜
