NEW: A phenomenal bit of true crime writing. Heartbreak. Suspense. Do-gooders. Bad dudes. For four years, Chris Solomon followed a massive international bike-theft ring swiping millions of dollars in bikes—and it ain’t over yet! wired.com/story/silicon-…

Wonderfully told and meticulously reported true crime story from Chris Solomon for WIRED, about a bike theft ring running from Silicon Valley to Mexico to points beyond, and still going! Bravo to Chris and Bryan Hance of Bike Index. wired.com/story/silicon-…

My first book review for the The New York Times! I recommend the book in question: a highly entertaining biography of a real-life 1920s "prince of thieves," by Dean Jobb | True Crime Writer nytimes.com/2024/06/25/boo…

A breathtaking achievement by @itscaitlinhd and lynsey addario. It's not just an urgent story of human suffering, but one that seems almost impossible in its reporting challenges. They scaled boulders and forded rivers to bring you this story. Read it. theatlantic.com/magazine/archi…

“I’m like an undercover cop in a world where undercover cops don’t exist.” Wild GQ Magazine story about a professional whistleblower who scans social media for execs who seem like frauds, pretends he’s an investor, and then reports to the SEC. gq.com/story/how-to-m…

I tagged along on a surreal trip to a conflict zone in Azerbaijan with a group of explorers known as the world's Most Traveled People. No matter that the war there wasn't over yet. outsideonline.com/adventure-trav…

When the U.S. government sent the Tsukamoto family to an incarceration camp in 1942, one neighbor stepped up to save the farms they left behind, giving them something to come home to. bit.ly/3VccFT3

In one of the strangest chapters of my life, I spent several months in the trenches of Big Headlight, looking to understand just how and why headlights became brighter than the sun. Answers, graphs, penis sketches—it's all here, on the brand new The Ringer: theringer.com/2024/12/03/tec…

As you may have heard, most (not all) of the people who produce Outside magazine (and the website) were laid off on Thursday. The ex-ME has a complete archive of issues going all the way back to the 1970s. If anybody knows of a library that might want to house these, lemme know.

Outside in its heyday was one of the best magazines that ever existed. I'm proud I got to be part of that. It was thriving before the pandemic, and I firmly believe it would have thrived again post-pandemic if it had remained a stand-alone brand. What a waste.

Beautiful essay from Antonio De Loera 🇺🇸🇲🇽 on why El*n and DOGE have the National Parks in their crosshairs: because they are a successful and popular instance of public ownership. compactmag.com/article/why-na…
