As if irregardless weren’t bad enough…

Powerful learning experience yesterday in Tuskegee, AL during the commemoration marking 25 years since the Presidential apology for the Tuskegee Syphilis Study and 50 years since that study came to light.

These are elementary school children who woke up this morning. Who ate their favorite cereal. Who tied their shoes in double knots. Who laughed with friends on the bus. Now more than a dozen are dead. This isn’t normal. It doesn’t have to be this way. It can’t keep being this way

Pediatricians are being told (warned) to stay in our own lane and not weigh in on the toll of gun violence on children. If preventable death isn’t “our lane,” I’d like to know what is. Child advocacy is as integral as otitis treatment to the practice of pediatrics.

This should not be a necessary part of childhood.
