THIS is a disaster for the planet. The destruction of the biosphere, that no journalist or government or scientist appreciates as every bit as bad for the climate as fossil fuel emissions. Most of this is agriculture for overpopulation, but renewable energy worsens it. #auspol

the “something big is coming” article is just one big ad for ai, where the only solution to the problem is the problem. fear is a powerful marketing tactic.

Snow drought ≠ just wildfire risk. It means: – aquatic species pushed to extinction – forests dying without fire – wildlife refuges with no water – ag vs. cities for shrinking supplies – aquifers quietly mined Fire gets attention. Hydrology decides outcomes.

Los Angeles once had the biggest trolley system in the world -- connecting LA's 400 'Historic Main Streets and Historic Villages' -- and each had a 'main street' of small retail where people could do their errands. Residents could also catch a Trolley to the rest of the city.

I’m the CEO of a hot dog company. I’ve worked on hot dogs for 10 years. And *I* wasn’t prepared for what I’ve just seen. Your life is about to change. So what can you do? Buy as many hot dogs as you can. Buy stock in hot dog companies.

Kinda crazy how the US economy is only growing because of investment in The God Brain but the US labor market is only growing because of changing old people diapers. America is truly a land of contrasts

Betting on Jesus returning by 2027 and the Backstreet Boys singing about crypto are kind of the same thing. Speculation and nostalgia are both exit strategies from the present, and neither provides answers. New piece on what happens when the economy grows without… people.

Last year, there were more wildfires east of the Mississippi than west of it. Over the past 40 years, the east and southeast has seen a 10x increase in the frequency of large fire. All of New Jersey could burn through in 48 hours. Eye-opening by Jeva Lange 🫎: heatmap.news/adaptation/eas…

In roughly 150 years, the United States drained over half of the wetlands that once covered the continent. Those wetlands slowed floods, stored seasonal water, filtered rivers, and supported massive bird and fish nurseries. When they disappeared, rivers ran faster, flood peaks

Sen. Kelly: The old world is gone because Donald Trump blew it up. We had this system of alliances that has served us since World War II. Even if we are able to repair these relationships, it's going to take generations before they feel comfortable.

Outdoor cafe culture is elite, and you can’t do it when our main streets are full of car dependent strip malls with the same corporate chains.

Anne Hidalgo started with school streets. Then in an Ocean’s 11-style heist… 70k parking spaces disappeared. 50%. Turned into parks and green space and bike lanes. The greatest heist in history. And suddenly Paris is a different city….
