Richard Garber joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1955.

He lost his life 12 years later, when the plane he was in crashed during a training flight, killing him and five other airmen.

Garber left behind his wife and their two children.

RCAF Namao was built in the early 1950s to support US bombers and Canadian fighters. It had one of the longest runways in the Commonwealth and was an alternate landing site for the Space Shuttle.

THe RCAF on the other hand, gave her the only Canadair built Mk3 Sabre ever (modified for the Orenda engine) to do it.
