Red pigment found under the Victorian wallpaper at Llys Tretŵr, Powys (C15th). It would have been very striking if it covered the whole of this large upper room.

Shrouded figures at Christ’s feet in the medieval Doom at St Andrew, Pickworth. Their simple yet expressive faces as they await judgement are powerful and seem to convey caution.

It was so exciting to see this and I’ll post more about it soon!

The 12th century decorated chancel window of St. Mary’s Church at Kempley in Gloucestershire. The walled city above the window is a representation of the gates of Jerusalem. 📸 My own.

Detail from the 13th century ‘Wheel of Fortune’ at Rochester Cathedral. Hidden beneath layers of whitewash, the wall painting was rediscovered in the early 19th century during restoration work. 📸 My own.

Late 9th century wall painting fragment of an angel. It was excavated at New Minster in Winchester, and possibly came from one of the monastic buildings founded by King Alfred. Now on display Winchester Cathedral 📸 My own.

This is so subtle that the Mouse almost missed it and there seems to be no description of it (may be in Pevsner, the Mouse supposes). Painting on jamb of north chancel priests door
