IAF undertaking firefighting operations to douse forest fires near Madukkarai range in Coimbatore.
Nearly 6000 litres of water was dispensed until this morning.

Information was received at HQ Southern Air Command about forest fire in Madukkarai Range of Coimbatore Forest Division. At first light on 16 April 23, Mi 17 V5 helicopter of AF Stn Sulur was pressed into 'Bambi Bucket' operations for dousing the fire. The operation is underway.

Mi-17 helicopter from IAF Stn Sulur carried out multiple sorties,dispensed 22000 ltrs of water over fire affected area in Madukkarai Range of Coimbatore Forest Div & fire in two major areas doused. IAF closely coordinating with Civil Administration for further fire fighting ops.

Early in the morning on Thursday, the Forest Department rescued a young male elephant that had fallen into an water tank on a farm near Madukkarai in the Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu.

We need such an underpass or over bridge to avoid Jumbo deaths.
