My non-work day adventure. A chosen grid square rather than random (I’m not brave enough yet) but still a completely unexplored area for me. Nice to practise route finding on a low level walk with a map. #ASingleMap
Yesterday I revisited the Exeter Green Circle with friends. A good opportunity to fill in a few gaps in my #ASingleMap image collection. Did mean of course I had to run to and from the start of the walk. #AdventuresFromTheFrontDoor
#ASingleMap Did my first section of the local OS Explorer 1km square bagging exploration project! Not so much exploration, as it was ticking a lot of local boxes, pretty much literally. Good fun, made riding interesting, ended up as 50km. Defo more to come! Alastair Humphreys
Slowly getting around the Devon Wildlife Trust reserves in my #ASingleMap . Today I visited Dawlish Inner Warren. Wet & windswept I didn’t see a lot of birdlife in my brief visit. Highlights were the Sandwich Terns passed overhead & Linnets along the shoreline. #Local
Hearty recommendation for ‘Local’ by Alastair Humphreys 🏡
Al bought a bespoke OS 1:25k map with his home at its heart, before taking off to explore as many grid boxes as he could.
A celebration of the hidden beauty waiting to be discovered on any ordinary doorstep 🏡

Currently reading Local by Alastair Humphreys. Really making me think about what there is to explore locally. The answer is quite a lot! First trip today with a walk up Shatton Moor. Surprise find... a medieval earthwork. #asinglemap #local #geographyteacher #readingforpleasure
I love shattering the peace of a woodland morning with the brief roar of my stove.
It's worth it, sometimes, to carry this little bit of extra gear on a bike ride to make the mid-ride coffee break more special.

Chuffed to be interviewed by Runner's World UK for May edition of their mag. Didn’t expect a full page spread detailing my #ASingleMap challenge exploring an OS map centred on my house. Love the way they’ve presented the stats. Great to see Alastair Humphreys credited as my inspiration.
‘My map has changed my perception of home, made me less tempted to fly, and more motivated to care for the environment.’ Alastair Humphreys
I’ve just finished reading

Epic afternoon just to the north of #ASingleMap on Inchcolm. Definitely a Local adventure though. Stunning Augustinian abbey and wartime defences. Great boat from Queensferry. Can’t believe I’ve never been and can’t wait to go back.
My latest wander around my #ASingleMap home ground has had me looking close to the ground, noticing just how much is in bloom right now.

Paths that we walk regularly may hold beauty that we don't normally notice - and they may lead us into small wild places we knew nothing about. Get a map, go walk, take note. lesleya.com/blog/wildflowe…

Alastair Humphreys I had a great morning out with Dawn Carter walking a place close to my home called 'Great Jenkins' I had never visited - A great idea for a book. More to do in the next few months. This was this mornings area of operation #asinglemap
