Watched “The Legend of Swee’ Pea” last night, which was really thought-provoking. 1) That Lloyd Daniels made — and stayed — in the NBA shows just how transcendent a player he was. He had drug problems, was nearly murdered and did not play college hoops and still made the league.

2) It is jarring to see how callously Black college athletes were discarded in the ‘80s because of drug issues. Lloyd Daniels, Charles Thompson, it was gross and exploitative.

3) Seeing how Lloyd Daniels learned to work within a basketball development system designed to exploit him was pretty striking. Lloyd obviously has flaws, but I felt a lot of compassion for everything he dealt with.
