Part of Toronto will soon be transformed into a 'Dutch-style' intersection. Safety is improved by moderating turn speeds, increasing separation between modes, and enhancing visibility of vulnerable road users. toronto.ctvnews.ca/this-major-tor…

There are 2 cars, first one moving at 30mph and other at 20. 🚗 🚙  They both brake. The first car will still be moving at 24mph when the other has stopped. At 20mph it’s safer for everyone. Let’s look out for each other. #ReadyFor20mph

We sent a reporter to a village that trialed 20mph. “It's fair to say that almost everyone we spoke to felt that the new legislation coming into force was going to be a good thing for Wales.” It’s like people enjoy feeling safe where they live. walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-new…

20mph limits are about "freedom". The freedom of children to walk or cycle to school The freedom for the elderly to keep mobile The freedom from death or injury whilst in our community public spaces And here are the Welsh Conservatives who helped to bring that to Wales

20's Plenty for Us TBH. I have travelled along the Shirley 20mph corridor this week & the new limit appears to speed up journey times, even out the flow & makes it easier for traffic joining from side roads without conflict & disruption. Plus much safer for pedestrians at crossing places.

Welsh Tory shadow minister for climate change, Janet Finch-Saunders, speaking to the Welsh parliament in 2020 about 20mph limits: "It's common sense; it's a safe move. A person is 7 times less likely to die if hit at 20mph than 30mph or 10 times if they're over the age of 60."

Excellent words by Sir Chris Whitty, unfortunately many politicians are not brave enough or strong enough to support his words. Nothing will change unless we change the government in 2024. The debate about an urban/village 20mph limit as a norm seems to be between those who see issue either thru a windscreen or potential for populist votes, and those who see the issue thru eyes of an 8 year old or societal public health and values.

Thoughts on these signs - do you think they would be effective in your area? Perhaps the data from #OpSnap reporting could be used to target hot spots.
