I look forward to following the careers of these to people. Suthenbreeze is working on a project researching black spaces and black space makers. @buttaphro continues to work on interesting projects involving the presence of black people in public spaces in Detroit. 2/9

Good morning, San Diego! What a joy to kick off this last day of #ASLA2019 w Diana Fernandez, Lisa Switkin Field Operations, & Mark Rios discussing Spatial Multiplicity; Weaving Complex & Diverse Narratives in the Public Realm. “It’s not about us,it’s about them.”

This past sunday I was had the honor of presenting some working ideas of Decolonizing Design through the lens of black narratives in landscape architecture. It was amazing!

It's much appreciated when others can resonate with your working thoughts. We're all trying to figure it out. We just know what how we elevate narratives of oppression just ain't it.

People literally looked at me like I was crazy when I started my masters program. “I want to design spaces where Black and Brown people can feed their minds, nourish their bodies, and BREATHE.” Some of y’all just really don’t get it and we’re all tired of explaining it to you.

Landscape architects can be specific about the non human world but can't be specific about the human world? Systemic racism and the specifics of serial black murder by police are at issue. The ASLA statement needs a do over.

I don’t want to hear firms talking about diversity and inclusion. This is the time to talk about how you’re going to discuss actionable ways to fight for black lives.

Suthenbreeze (@suthenbreeze) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Complacency is violence. This message upholds the status quo that black lives don't matter. Black people's health, safety, and welfare are being threatened. Black people are being killed where they live, work, and learn. Do better. #BlackLivesMatter #justice

One day of support is not enough. Black people are being killed every day! A more actionable response should replace this passive intention.

I don’t trust it. I see the temptation to give credit to this symbolic action given his father marching in the 60s. But if we are following pops as a role model let’s see the policy changes t HUD that seek to redistribute wealth into black communities thru the built environment.

Your first job would be to focus on jusitce. Diversity + inclusion are the byproducts of justice + equity. You will continue to fail at this if you choose to ignore what people are actually asking for. We seek JUSTICE. Not representation that reproduces the same trauma.
