St Nicholas Square is a big improvement on what was there before Colchester City Council. The trees that were in the design outside Three Wise Monkeys seem to have been missed. Hopefully someone is looking after the new trees which are a bit weedy.

Telegraph readers have now voted for their favourite European cities. The top 3: Seville, Copenhagen and Venice are well-known for not being filled with cars… Perhaps they could also have nice walkable places at home and not just on holiday?

Nigel Farage today opened his 'Lawless Britain' press conference saying he now rejects the Crime Survey of England & Wales - the only validated crime level measurement. The 35,000-households Crime Survey is fatal to anyone wanting to present a picture of immigrant-driven crime

The rise of American-style pick up trucks on British roads is ridiculous. Most owners aren't ranchers living in the wilderness, they live on a crowded suburban housing estate, and all their neighbours think they are twats.

The phenomenon of “bikelash” has become one of the biggest barriers to implementing interventions that make our streets more livable, accessible and sustainable. So how do we best manage it as advocates for change? Here are 8 strategies we recently presented at Velo-city Conference.🧵

Dangerous drivers who kill or seriously injure others are routinely let back on the road in England & Wales. Lifetime bans are VERY rare. Even the most deadly repeat offenders who kill while driving *more than once* avoid lifetime bans. Stats and case studies below. 1/10

Britain has a cost-free way to make its streets safer: don't renew the licences of people who kill by dangerous driving. But inexplicably, we don't do it! Of the 202 people convicted of causing death by dangerous driving in 2023/24, just 2 were handed a lifetime driving ban.

It's often said that the lack of prison space is one reason our criminal justice system is so lenient. Then what accounts for how forgiving we are of dangerous drivers who kill people and are let back on the roads shortly after?

This dangerous close pass was on Argents Lane where a cyclist was killed in a road collision one year ago. When reported to Essex Police the result was a warning letter. Essex Police are not serious about Vision Zero and protecting cyclists SaferEssexRoads Chief Constable BJ Harrington QPM - Essex Police

‘Robert Jenrick spoke about white faces - what’s the difference?’ Lewis Goodall presses Tory MP Chris Philp on why he condemns Sarah Pochin’s remarks about black people in adverts as racist, but not Robert Jenrick’s on Birmingham.
