Hard truth is the entire billion dollar PR industry globally advises the powerful to say nothing about Trump, nothing about Gaza, nothing about Brexit… So when somebody like Gary Lineker breaks cover it exposes the powerful as cowards.

Brexiteers have had nine years to outline and deliver a British economy with less ties to the EU that is better for the country. They failed, preferring internecine feuding instead. Isn’t it just logical now for any neutral observer for someone to see if more ties works instead?

We are an island nation and fishing communities matter. But the row about the UK’s new fishing deal with the EU is about preserving community cohesion in depressed coastal towns, not about general economic prosperity - because fishing and aquaculture (excluding processing)

The great irony is that Starmer has managed to negotiate one thing that Johnson failed: Remember that Johnson's 2020 deal kept a full, direct ECJ jurisdiction over Northern Ireland. Starmer negotiated an improvement on this with independent arbitration when EU rules apply.

Useful thread below..This is a modest deal but a significant achievement for govn given internal tensions over youth mobility etc and starting point..the Johnson/Frost deal..biggest failure of statecraft since 1945. It’s a start..wait for businesses/most voters to call for more

Apart from the NFFO (fishing lobby) I can't see a single business/group that does not welcome the UK-EU reset. BCC, CBI, IoD, UK Steel, UK Hospitality, British Meat Processors Association, Morrisons, BAE Systems, Salmon Scotland(!), Port of Dover.

If you are tired of the performative hysteria of parts of the British press and would like to know how Europe sees today's 'Reset'- Summit, here's my take. Spoiler alert. It's mostly good news for Britain. 👇👇 tagesschau.de/ausland/europa…

Lord Frosty had the rare privilege of being given a cabinet role to implement his Brexit deal. He was gone within months claiming he was opposed to fleeting covid rules. If his deal had been a triumph he would have stayed. Even he knew deep down it was a disaster.

Samir Shah is proving to be a weak BBC chair… he chose the easier option of urging equally weak director general to sack Gary Lineker immediately and lose yet another talented presenter. The BBC’s critics are smart at detecting weakness and will come for it again within days.

Keir Starmer slaughtering Kemi Badenoch in Commons’ EU statement.. but at least Badenoch turned up. Nigel Farage not there even though he claims to be real opposition leader and the topic is theoretically his favourite.

With all the policy issues facing Labour, the Kuenssberg show wastes time on the Westminster bubble obsession of who leaked what. The only interesting answer is “it’s a fair cop, I did it” and no politician has ever said that. #bbcpolitics
