One of the most thoughtful pieces I’ve read here. Thank you Ahmed Fouad Alkhatib !

“Most students are sincere and absolutely have their hearts in the right place. They are, however, misguided and are being led by extreme, radical, and genuinely detrimental organizations…”

Must read to anyone wondering about campus encampments. Thanks Kevin A. Bryan for the excellent coverage. And no thanks to all the Universities’ leadership who’ve allowed this insanity

Not only is this the right question to ponder, but the thread highlights some pretty interesting issues. I pray every day for a cease fire to commense and for the bloodhed to end. But most of the protestors seem to have been hijacked by naiveté and a lack of any critical thinking

Well done kids. Not only are you clueless about the history and complexity of the region, & not only are you not having an impact on what matters (ending the war), you'll help elect your greatest nemesis. Remember: karma is a bitch. wsj.com/us-news/educat… via The Wall Street Journal

Re: My employer (UofMN) breaking up pro-Palestinian camp on main quad:

They were right to do so.

Public U's have an obligation to protect 1st amendment rights of free speech AND peaceable assembly, but both are subject to content-neutral reasonable time, place, and manner…

Three universities—Columbia, USC, and now Yale—find themselves in quagmires rooted in their unprincipled and shortsighted embrace of identity politics. The drama now centers around the rights of Jewish and pro-Palestinian students. Both groups feel let down, even discriminated…

The irony is that a vast majority of Israeli academics (like in most countries) are significantly left of center, against the Netanyahu govmt, and pro two-state solution. This is such an infantile attitude that shows a lack of any understanding of the various stakeholders.

Every quant academic MUST read this. 🤯Such editors MUST be outed and removed from their post as they show a complete lack of understanding basic statistics. Christopher Petsko: I know this sounds scary for an AP, so maybe consult one of your mentors on how to best do it.

I was searching for the most appropriate term to describe the below. Is un-fucking-believable reasonable? I used to think that Berkeley is off the rails on some of this (and still do), but thanks to Columbia University, I'm thinking we ain't that bad...

“This is what happens with juvenile, virtue-signaling, childless sociopaths think their pet cause is more important than other people's lives & loved ones.”

Brilliantly described. That political leaders didnt send police is mind blowing (as Christopher Phelan noted elsewhere)

'Google has said it will appeal the December antitrust jury verdict, and it can separately challenge any reforms ordered by Donato, which could stretch the case for years.'

This stuff takes SO LONG...

Seems useful at this time to remember that we Iranians invented Chess. Hopefully, we the West sufficiently culturally appropriated it. The weird thoughts when your homeland (birth) attacks your homeland (grow), with your homeland (live) coming to help.
