I've spent 9.5 years at FiveThirtyEight, but won't make it 10. I was laid off today as part of Disney's cuts. My colleagues and I built a website out of nothing, and journalism changed because of it. There are worse legacies. More reflections to come once things shake out.

Well, I'm finally doing one of these. I just got word that my time with FiveThirtyEight is at an end. It was a joy to be able to write about analytics and sports for nearly a decade, and I want to thank you all for reading over the years.

I was affected by the ABC layoffs announced today. After six years, my time at FiveThirtyEight has come to an end. I’ve grown immensely as an editor and leader here, and am sad to leave my colleagues. We built an incredible thing, and I am proud of all our coverage.

I got laid off from FiveThirtyEight today. I've loved every second of my time here since day 1. This newsroom is full of great, kind, compassionate, funny people who have changed the landscape of data journalism. It's sad to see it suffer greatly with Disney's layoffs.
