People who extend credit are going to develop ways to quantify risk. Credit scores are a rare example of a model that you have access to, while most proprietary algos are black boxes for consumers. It's not obvious that the black boxes are fairer.

This is cool, but OLS would be minimizing the lengths of the strings along the Y dimension only, i.e. if the strings were held vertical. The X's are given, and the model is minimizing the difference between the actual and predicted Y.
