The suggestion that any job is “low skill” is a myth perpetuated by wealthy interests to justify inhumane working conditions, little/no healthcare, and low wages. Plus being a waitress has made me and many others *better* at our jobs than those who’ve never known that life.

I’ve just done some digging into my student loan, and I’m speechless I started paying my student loan back in 2016, my outstanding balance was £38,040. Since then I’ve made 75 payments (there’s 75 months in between then and now). My current outstanding balance is £41,120.

Here is my take-home (as in after tax, loans etc) pay as a first year junior doctor. £13.81 per hour, 48 hours per week minimum including nights and weekends, with so very many unpaid hours. Out of this come exams, courses, conferences etc etc - we're not overpaid.

When we're bombarded with claims of 'woke nonsense' every day it's useful to remember the stories of actual people who have to endure the reality of racism that the media and right-wing politicians pretend is made up by radical academics. Yet it's their denial that's made up!
