Thanks to the Garland Democrat Club for having me come talk about Moms Demand Action last night. A GDC member was shot &killed recently by a dating partner so now they join 1/2+ of the US as directly impacted by GV. We don't have to live this way. Text READY to 64433 to join this work.

This is the result of YEARS of advocacy and work by groups like Moms Demand Action & GIFFORDS & numerous survivor groups and advocates. This type of effort by a governor is crucial, and for every bit of hell the gun lobby gives him, gun safety advocates will meet it with support.

Say her name. Her name is AJ Owens. A mother of 4 shot and killed by a white woman. A mom doing what a normal mom would do if you took her children's IPad. She went to confront her neighbor, who has not been arrested for murder.

This is Ajike “AJ” Owens — a mother of 4 fatally shot after she reportedly knocked on the door of a white woman’s residence to retrieve her child’s iPad. It’s believed that Owens’ children accidentally left the device behind in a field they were playing in, & the woman took it.

Moms Demand Action marched in Dallas #pride parade. LGBTQIA ppl are being targeted by TX lawmakers and silence is complicity.
We must #disarmhate .
We must loudly affirm that LGBTQIA ppl are here and seen and belong and we will fight for them.

TX Moms Demand Action asked #txlege to pass common sense gun laws. Instead they:

🛑required every school to have armed presence, but left kids vulnerable to gun violence EVERYWHERE ELSE!

On this day one year ago, 19 precious children and two beloved educators were killed in a horrific act of mass gun violence carried out by a gunman armed with an AR-style rifle at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Seventeen other people were wounded.

The TX Senate will soon vote on #HB100 , the school finance and pay raise bill being held hostage for a private school voucher.

Given its $16 billion, 5-year price tag, we want to remind senators of the raises for teachers in their districts they could be voting for instead. 🧵

On this day five years ago, ten people were killed and 13 were wounded when a gunman entered Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe, Texas, and opened fire.

We hold those devastated by this senseless tragedy in our hearts and pledge to act in their honor.
