When PACAC Committee raised PLP’s concerns about the DWP’s use of AI & automation last year, the DWP said it would assess its impact on protected groups & vulnerable claimants. Now its Annual Report has been published – but no meaningful information has been provided 🧵

‘In five weeks spent travelling round in the country during the election campaign, I was struck by the huge number of people I spoke to who either had direct experience of the crisis, or family and friends whose everyday lives were all but defined by it.’

Ian Birrell (@ianbirrell) 's Twitter Profile Photo

For those fortunate folks with no need to become embroiled in our special needs system, the core issue is that families in crisis discover that a system supposed to support them all too often turns into a nightmarish confrontation against a cash-strapped & uncaring bureaucracy

Making Lawful Decisions has been years in the making and benefits from input from a large number of brilliant barristers. We are honoured to have a foreword from Lord Justice Singh We hope it will help everyone tasked with making decisions, as well as everyone affected by them

It’s six years since the launch of #RightfulLives. Such a lot has happened since then…and then again nothing has happened. Either way, enjoy our original exhibition. It is still so thought provoking. rightfullives.net

Feeling proud, but sad. From the days when campaigning was about people coming together, with love, creativity and determination & when folk were more interested in doing rather than disrupting or posturing.

I’d like to imagine a world where universities are places for growth and development. Where hard working lecturers support students’ learning. Where your prospects are not fixed at 18.

Phil Baty I've worked at Kingston University for 15y. I know those students. They give meaning to my work. They are often neurodivergent or they fought fire and brimstone to get to us. Their success is nothing else than a feat and a celebration of what universities stand for.

💯 agree with @OliverConway personally know so many domestic abuse victims and Sen families being atrociously failed and can’t get access to legal aid due to capacity. Many local authorities know this and are abusing the system by ignoring tribunal orders or immediately holding

This paragraph is particularly grim, but the whole document is terrible. It's an example of what happens when you invent an enemy - in this case "the bureaucratic class" - and then pin the blame for all society's ills on them.

Ian Dunt (@iandunt) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The tone of that document is very similar to Marxist analysis. It'll be roughly as electorally successful, perhaps less so. But if the Tories want to spend the next five years wobbling on about a conspiracy of the 'professional class' they should go right ahead.

If a donor paying for Starmer’s glasses is a story (& I think it is) then so is the donor, closely allied with climate change deniers, who is funding Badenoch’s campaign, and supplying her with a base.
