"The rules are useless." Earlier today, Lord Lord (Eric) Pickles, former Chair of the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments, gave his view on the rules which former ministers and officials taking up new roles are expected to abide by.




Yesterday, Head of @statsregulation Ed Humpherson was questioned about problems at the Office for National Statistics (ONS). He told the Committee that one of the organisation’s main weaknesses is that it tends to ‘downplay external concerns’.



We have published a letter from the Cabinet Office Permanent Secretary, Catherine Little CB, confirming the resignation of the Chair of the UK Statistics Authority, Sir Robert Chote, who will step down in the autumn. Read the letter ⬇️

Yesterday, we received further evidence from the UK Statistics Authority highlighting systemic failures within the organisation. In particular, Emma Rourke, the Interim National Statistician, addressed concerns raised by the review of the Transformed Labour Force Survey.
