Word fact of the day: 'orange' was a fruit before it was a colour. Its name travelled through many languages from the Sanskrit 'nāranga' ('orange tree'). The colour 'orange' was named after the fruit and didn't emerge until the 1500s; before then it was known as 'yellow-red'.
