H.E Hassan Sheikh Mohamud received Mr. Filippo Grandi, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. The President reiterated his government’s commitment to finding a lasting solution for IDPs affected by the drought, amping up the fight against terrorists & prioritizing political stability.

We visited some of the 74 sites hosting thousands of people displaced by drought in Galkayo South, Somalia. The humanitarian response is improving but more must be done to save lives. We urgently need more resources and more aid workers on the ground. We will continue to step up.

Always inspiring to visit Turkana, Kenya, hosting 250,000 refugees, many from South Sudan. Kalobeyei settlement is a model of refugee self reliance and coexistence with local communities: an approach led by the authorities, with innovative partnerships between aid and business.

I welcome the move by the South West State authorities to waive the annual registration fees for local and international #NGOs for one year - this helps the #humanitarian groups working to #PreventFamineinSomalia and I sincerely hope other #FMSs follow this worthy example.

Visited an IDP site on joint mission between UNSOM, UN Environment Programme, UNHCR Somalia and UNICEF Somalia, at the forefront of the #ClimateCrisis. This is an emergency drought education centre built not long ago and it’s already facing rising sand dunes. Need for #ClimateSecurity

Today UNHCR KENYA, County Government of Turkana & partners launched Phase II of the Kalobeyei Integrated Socio-Economic Plan. This initiative will expand inclusion opportunities and create an enabling environment for host & refugee communities to contribute to local and national economies.
