Suspensions and exclusions are a symptom of dealing with poor behaviour. Efforts to reduce this proxy figure must focus on improving behaviour rather than the all-too-common focus on preventing schools from effectively managing poor behaviour.

Book reading is a HABIT. If you do not have it now and want it, then you have to develop it. Like any other habit you must do it over and over again until it becomes second nature. Find a specific, isolated place (for me, it's my porch) and go there every day and read.

🔵🚨 Everton fall to defeat in New Jersey. A 0-3 loss to Bournemouth, who were on the end of 2 errors from Patterson and O’Brien. It is obvious to see that Everton need new signings. And these signs will eventually come.

A little bit about why I’ve been away. It’s been a tough year, but I’ve made it through. secretheadteacher.org/2025/08/01/men…

A-level teachers, in case no one says it today: thank you for all your hard work preparing pupils for exams. Few know the pressure, worry & workload it takes and the pupils success is built not just on their effort, but on yours too. You’ve made a real difference.

Thoughts on GCSE Grades. 🧵 In general we're not at peace with the realities of grading. You can't have comparative standards AND have everyone succeed above a certain level. The bell curve is not imposed.. there's no conspiracy. It's an outcome of cohort performance.
