Safe water is a basic human right, yet millions of children in South Asia don’t have enough to drink in a region deeply impacted by floods, droughts and other extreme weather events, triggered increasingly by climate change.

The #FloodsInPunjab have left families in urgent need of health care. In response, UNICEF delivered 7 metric tonnes of essential medicines & lifesaving supplies to Government of Punjab. This will help support the health needs of 120,000 people, including 60,000 children, for 3 months

The #FloodsInPunjab have worsened the #Malnutrition crisis. UNICEF is promoting #Breastfeeding, screening children & treating severe acute malnutrition with #RUTF, & providing micronutrient supplements. Nearly 2,000 children were screened & 600 women received supplements.

Born in the floods, this baby girl is still unnamed. Her parents, displaced & struggling to rebuild, are among nearly 5M people affected & 2.7M displaced in Punjab. As waters recede, UNICEF & partners are helping families recover with safe water, health care & learning spaces.

Inspired by my visit to Lahore recently. From girls pursuing their studies through the Afternoon School Programme to #KangarooMotherCare giving premature babies a healthy start, I saw how UNICEF’s support is giving children the chance to learn, grow & dream🩵

My visit to Lahore was both encouraging and insightful. Met Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, Sec. Gen. Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Amer Habib, Chairman Planning&Development Punjab Dr. Naeem Rauf, and EOC Coordinator Adeel Tasawur to discuss UNICEF’s work and see its impact on children.
