The global renewable energy sector employed 13.7 M people directly as well as indirectly in 2022. The number has been growing 📈 over the past decade, from 7.3 M in 2012, thanks to increased investments in more countries. Read IRENA - International Labour Organization report: bit.ly/3RCG4EI

These remarkable graphs from John Burn-Murdoch, who I spoke to at 8.43 on BBC Radio 4 Today, show monumental, sudden, devastating social changes, which have civilisational consequences It is just astonishing how little attention the complete transformation of young adulthood gets

Germany heading for record employment in renewables industry For solar, the lion’s share of workers in the sector are installers Trade measures to protect solar manufacturing (activity not labor intensive) will slowdown deployment and reduce jobs. 🔆🇩🇪 euractiv.com/section/energy…

☀️Very insightful meeting with CEOs of the solar sector companies represented in SolarPower Europe. ✅Rest assured – your message is received, loud & clear. ⚡️We have the same goals of achieving the #EUGreenDeal, but also boosting the economy & manufacturing here in Europe.

#Hydropower is an indispensable part of Europe’s #energytransition & achieving #climateneutrality. Thanks to flexibility & large storage capacity, hydropower plants are key technologies complementing variable #renewables. Today, I visited Statkraft’s 300MW hydroplant in Vinje.

Will we slash global emissions through electrification? Look to China - now dominating the global story. Some *stonking* stats in this piece. And a warning about the West’s protectionist reaction. Brilliant from Adam Tooze with data from @EmberClimate. open.substack.com/pub/adamtooze/…

Thank you, Walburga Hemetsberger, CEO of SolarPower Europe, for a great meeting & excellent cooperation we’ve had over the past 5 years. You played an important role during the #energycrisis & the sector has shown impressive growth, with 56GW solar capacity installed across the EU in 2023.

Today’s report from ENTSO-E confirms that the Iberian blackout was not caused by over-reliance on renewables, but by a series of cascading events that escalated due to multiple failures throughout the system.

Reminder: PIP isn’t a “luxury benefit.” According to Scope, disabled households face around £1,000+ extra costs every month just to survive - for things non-disabled people don’t need: care, transport, equipment, higher energy bills, and accessibility. That’s what PIP is for.

.TfL. Husband in wheelchair waited 20 minutes for a 159. Two came along in quick succession but neither let him on. Please explain your policy to bus drivers and give them the support they need to enforce it. He’s given up and come home. Wheelchair users rely on buses.

Truth bombs about being disabled and claiming benefits in the UK 💥 💣 Many disabled people DO work. You don’t need to be out of work to claim PIP - which is to help with the additional monthly cost of being disabled. 💣 Disabled people who can't work DO contribute to
