Severus had been grading papers when he heard the knock. He stood, rushing to the door and hoping it was word of Desire’s whereabouts. When he tugged the wooden door open, his onyx gaze found her… still covered in dirt… and in a rare moment, he pulled her into his arms.

“Are you injured?” he asked, deep voice laced with the sort of ache that only a father could feel. He held her there for a long moment before pushing her back just far enough to look down at her face. He had been horrified he’d never see her again… afraid of what might happen.
