Yellow (chlorotic) stripes in leaves of winter wheat caused by Cephalosporium leaf stripe. A leaf may have 1-3 stripes. Initially, stripes are yellow but develop brown (necrotic) stripes characteristically extending down the leaf blade & the leaf sheath. 2nd WW direct drilled.

Dense colonies of black bean aphids & pea aphid now being readily found on spring bean crops in Fife. Spray if > 10% plants. Control of early invading aphids is also essential to prevent Bean Leaf Roll Virus, Pea Enation Mosaic Virus & Bean Yellow Mosaic Virus if home saving seed

Examination of Just A Farmer’s field margins. Mix of clover, phacelia, vetch and trefoil amongst others. Interesting to see this environmental measure and discuss the benefits and savings associated with removing a non-productive area from arable production. NFU Scotland 🌱

Grimme Varitron 470 Platinum making good progress in Angus. A small amount of rain next week would be welcome, if knows to stop after 25mm.

A bit of indulgence on my part this week with the opportunity to drive a Nuffield Universal 4 which is older than me. Yes the rollers were in transport mode but see the grin on my face. Hard work by enthusiasts & expense in restoration is to be applauded.
