Gonna throw this one out there: If we continue to solely remediate kids thru Tiers 2 & 3 without ever exposing them to grade-level Tier 1, you will continue to remediate these same kids for their entire school careers. At some point we have to accelerate more than remediate.

It has been a great 2 days of learning thanks to the Alabama Literacy Association. We heard from from Natalie Wexler, author Patti Callahan, Leta Palmiter (author of Mississippi Rising), and more! My new favorite quote— It’s better to be a “learn it all, than a “know it all.”

Kirk Herbstreit 💬 on the Heisman race. 👀 "There's only been one team and one game and one player that's had that Heisman moment at this point, and to me that was Dillon Gabriel last week at the Cottton Bowl." #QBU | #BoomerSooner

New research challenges conventional wisdom about grade retention. There is now "substantial evidence that grade retention in elementary school can be an effective lever for improving student outcomes. But..." (the "but" is important) fordhaminstitute.org/national/resea… 1/3

Oral Reading Fluency and Running Records... What's the Difference? 🤔 Although often confused, one is aligned with science of reading research and one is no more accurate than the flipping of a coin! 😯 #sor #scienceofreading #literacy #literacyforall #assessment

ED-JOY: Oh the delight that filled my heart when I received my personal copy today!!! One of my dreams is to one day be an author of professional texts that equip and inspire educators to advance student learning. Well, today, I celebrate my FIRST entry into The Reading League

Principals should visit classrooms regularly, not just because they are responsible for student success, but because they are responsible for teacher success. Visiting classrooms is the only way for principals to know how they can provide the very best support for teachers.

In the past decade, I’ve heard more promotion of productive struggle than explicit instruction—forgetting that struggle without a foundation leads to frustration, not learning. As Zach Groshell reminds us, cognitive overload happens when we withhold the explanations students need.

This sweet group of little girls from rural Alabama have big dreams of playing ball! They just went 12-0 in their 10u rec ball season and are looking for sponsors to help them play in state and then the World Series. Help them get there! #Sandlot #1KGoal #RuralSports
