Robert Sterling Free speech maximalists are oddly quiet when someone in a hijab gets arrested (without a warrant or charges filed) for an op-ed. Constitutional maximalists are oddly quiet when ICE violates her 5th Amendment.

The startup ecosystem in Ethiopia is serving the wrong types of startups. More support is needed for entrepreneurs in sectors that actually create jobs: manufacturing, agriculture, etc.

There have been 46 cases in which federal judges have blocked Trump policies. The rulings in those cases have come from 39 different judges appointed by 5 different presidents of both parties to 11 different district courts in 7 different circuits. Maybe it's not the judges?

When an African leader hints at a 3rd term, it's the end of democracy as we know it šŸ˜±ā€”coups are justified, sanctions fly, op-eds write themselves. But when there's chatter about a U.S. President maybe considering a 3rd mandate... it’s just a ā€œnational conversationā€ šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡øšŸ§

Manufacturing is more than just factory-based production like assembly and making components. It's also about design, R&D, marketing, and retail. One of the most challenging aspects of economic development is to break into these latter segments of global value chains.

10% tariff on Ethiopia goods. Won’t encourage a single person to buy American coffee beans. Simply a tax on consumers.

It is unfortunate that #agriculture is one of the least financed sectors (about 6%) in Africa despite contributing a third of its GDP & employing over 60% of the labor force. Can setting up agricultural bank solve this problem sustainably?

It's easy to say "well then stop cheap imports." But I don't think Americans are returning back to those prices. In early 1960s, US households spent 12% of their income on apparel (or $4,157 in today's dollars). In 2016, it was 4% (or $1,803). And that's with larger wardrobes!
