1/ The CBC needs more Black producers. And to cut the crap. #BlackLivesMatter #JusticeForRegis I was tapped yesterday to appear on The Current this morning to discuss "George Floyd and Amy Cooper." When I asked if we would also talk about Regis Korchinski-Paquet, I was told:

We wanted to take a little break from the bad news to bring you all something amazing! We’ve just learned that there have been 24 Black Medical Students admitted to Temerty Medicine for the class of 2024!!🎉 This is the largest group in Canadian history 🙌🏾 Welcome to the family❤️

For all the 2020s starting residency in the next week - awesome reminders for language in our documentation! #MedTwitter

We must do better. As @ikunwosu pointed out, Queen's University @QueensUGME has only FOUR Black med students across all years, none in the 2023 class. The systemic barriers and overall strategies in medical school admissions must be reviewed deeply.

THIS. A great thread to keep in mind ahead of a fresh batch of residents starting tomorrow (🙋🏾‍♀️)! If you can say Tchaikovsky, Michelangelo or Antetokounmpo, there is no excuse. Even if you can't (read: won't), there is no excuse. Put in the effort.

This is incredibly disappointing and a prime example of tokenism. @QueensUGME there are FOUR Black med students across all years, none in the 2023/24 classes, yet you would like to collect all the BIPOC you can find to portray an illusion.

Thanks Justin Lam for sharing this - so helpful! Thought I’d share with some of my lovely peds R1 colleagues across the country who may find it as useful as I did! Julia Lew, MD Safia Ladha

Dr. Chaniece Wallace was a Pediatric Chief Resident at Indiana School of Medicine. She died in childbirth. In the US, maternal & infant mortality for Black Women & babies is ~3x that of non-Black women. Childbirth isn’t safe for Black Women in America. This is crushing.😞

If you can correctly spell & pronounce medical terms like Choledocholithiasis, Aphthous Stomatitis & Xerostomia...You can definitely learn how to correctly spell & pronounce the names of the diverse people you care for and work with. #medtwitter

The Jason Campbell/OHSU lawsuit is deeply upsetting & if it’s bringing back some emotions that you have buried, I support you. If your stomach has pit of anger and the familiar fear of being harassed again, same & I support you. #BelieveSurvivors

Flipped on the TV today and look what I saw! Trailblazer Iku Nwosu, MD on CTV News discussing the incredible changes her and other Queen's University students are making to the med school curriculum to accurately reflect non-Caucasian skin tones and patients. So proud :) 🙌🏽 💪🏽Michelle Gibson

Important reflections on inclusivity and subtle racism in medicine, still very much present today. Let's keep these top of mind as we welcome a new cohort of residents.
