Yes, reading is important because it teaches kids empathy and critical thinking, but before anything else reading is FUN. Kids need to know that reading is one of the most pleasurable things they’ll do in life.

Could not agree more. Reading needs to be for fun / pleasure and kids need to be allowed to pick the stories they’re interested in. I still struggle to get through books I’m “forced” to read; I mean, what’s the fun if you’re not invested in the story?

People ask “how could a single Victorian novelist produce 10 million books” and then you read the diaries of Victorian novelists and they’re like “spent the morning rolling around in cocaine and laudanum. drank a hundred cups of coffee and saw God.”

Recently I learned that 50% of men surveyed believe they could land a commercial aircraft in an emergency and knowing this is helping me understand a lot of the emails I get at work.

I don’t post on here much these days, but this is important. I have direct experience of patients, carers & colleagues approaching me with things they have told me they felt safer doing, because of the rainbow badge. If being available to all of our patients isn’t basic, what is?
