Though I’ve been to FMB in the years following Ian, I haven’t been to the location of the famous 15ft surge video shot by Max Olson. Incredible to think of just how high the water was, while also acknowledging the resilience of the FMB community in the years after.

We are quickly approaching the peak of the Atlantic Hurricane Season, which is Sept 10th. During September, not only does tropical cyclone development favor the tropical Atlantic, but climatology shows that the number of named storms in the Gulf is greatest during this month.

We want to thank the Louisiana Tech Research Institute (LTRI) for allowing us to host our Integrated Warning Team Workshop at their beautiful facility. We discussed ways in which we can strengthen our partnerships and carry out our shared mission of protecting lives and property.

This morning, a NWS survey team confirmed an EF-1 tornado in Bossier Parish, specifically in south Benton near the Lost River Estates development. The brief tornado produced max winds of 87 miles per hour and last only a minute before lifting.

A great example of the HRRR nailing wake low potential behind the morning convection across the SHV CWA. It’s not always perfect, but when it is, it’s impressive.

The fact that I’ve seen the northern lights more times in Shreveport, LA (including once in Ft Myers, FL) than my entire time in Minnesota is peak aurora chasing

Day 4 working this winter event. Due to the amount of sleet and ice here in Shreveport, our team has been camping out at the office to ensure the mission of protecting life and property continues. Temps will struggle to reach freezing today as roads continue to be ice rinks.

Saturday I start my last week of operational shifts at NWS Shreveport. I have recently accepted a new position as a Flight Director with the NOAA Hurricane Hunters at the NOAA Aircraft Operations Center in Lakeland, FL. I’m incredibly excited and grateful for this new adventure!

Interested in hurricanes? I want to introduce TC-ATLAS: the Tropical Cyclone Analysis Tool for Live and Archived Structure. Explore live or past storms without writing a line of code or downloading a data file, building on the capabilities of TC-RADAR: michaelfischerwx.github.io/TC-ATLAS/index…

Today was my last day at NWS Shreveport. I am incredibly grateful for my time here in the ArkLaTex and the ability to work with an incredible team of meteorologists, IT, ET, and administrative professionals. While this chapter closes, I can’t wait for my next one to begin in FL.
