Congratulations to the students at Oregon Episcopal School who claimed the title of National Champions in the world’s largest student rocket contest, beating out 614 other teams. I know lots of hard work and collaboration went into this project — way to make Oregon proud!

Hi besties 👋🏻 The past six months have been WILDLY exciting and busy but I’ve done a terrible job sharing what I’ve been working on. I’ll post my favorite things over the next few days, but here’s some snippits for now:

Here's ACS, the system which enables our @RocketContest vehicle to repeatedly stop within 4 feet of our target apogee. The hardware is super cool, but special sauce here is the phase space plot which defines the mathematically perfect air brake angle for the entire flight regime

Here's DCS! This system deploys a spring-loaded assembly of tiny drone motors to autonomously dial in our @RocketContest vehicle's descent rate in real-time. DCS resulted in a perfect time score on all scored flights this year, except for one.

Anyone heading to ROCstock from central/southern California have an extra spot in their vehicle? Now that I’m in college, I have rockets (and a burning desire to get my L1) but no car.

About an hour after getting my L1 I purchased the largest motor at ROCstock that I was legally allowed to fly. Needless to say, it was a fantastic idea.

Double integrating acceleration data alone to get 3D position works better than I thought it would!
