Big name, top facilities, and allegations of abusive behavior & toxic environments. DW and DER SPIEGEL investigated the claims against the Max Planck Society and spoke to over 30 young scientists. The findings suggest a systemic failure of accountability. p.dw.com/p/4rhZH

Excited to share our latest story! We found disentangled memory representations in the hippocampus that generalized across time and environments, despite the seemingly random drift and remapping of single cells. This code enabled the transfer of prior knowledge to solve new tasks

The human consciousness signal has been identified. Groundbreaking Science Magazine study convincingly showed that the activity of certain nuclei in the human thalamus are needed to consciously perceive what we see.

These look like really solid results indicating that psychedelics are not acting like antidepressants, contrary to what many might think biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

I like OpenAI’s mission of 'ensure that artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity”, and I’d like to stop them from completely gutting it. I’ve signed on to a new letter to Rob Bonta & Attorney General Kathy Jennings asking them to halt the restructuring. (1/2)

IMO an over-reaction bc ketamine has many uses, but we are about 5 years from a similar backlash in the US if we continue mailing ketamine and injection needles to anyone who asks nicely

BREAKING: Apple just proved AI "reasoning" models like Claude, DeepSeek-R1, and o3-mini don't actually reason at all. They just memorize patterns really well. Here's what Apple discovered: (hint: we're not as close to AGI as the hype suggests)

Out today in nature: we show that individual neurons have diverse tuning to a decision variable computed by the entire population, revealing a unifying geometric principle for the encoding of sensory and dynamic cognitive variables. nature.com/articles/s4158…

Inspired by Michael Eisen I've begun an experiment in open science. We are sharing our ongoing work on psychedelic signaling here: open.substack.com/pub/zendudest/… I've decided to make this 'open' as the experiment are of immediate interest to the field and I'll write them up later.

"I use AI in a separate window. I don't enjoy Cursor or Windsurf, I can literally feel competence draining out of my fingers." DHH, the legendary programmer and creator of Ruby on Rails has the most beautiful and philosophical idea about what AI takes away from programmers.

New preprint from collaboration with SchafferNishimuraLab - 2p imaging of psilocybin's effects on neurovascular coupling 🔬 We found that psilocybin prolongs the neurovascular response, independent of neural activity. This affects how we should interpret fMRI BOLD studies of #psychedelics‼️
