Earlier this month, we enjoyed some quality observations of two porcupines in a mulberry tree at a rental house on Lake George, NY. Fascinating critters - our 2nd largest rodent armed with as many as 30,000 quills! #https://roadsendnaturalist.com/ #TwitterNatureCommunity

Mini-wildlife around Lake Gorge included some cool hump-backed bee flies (Geron sp.?) and lots of ambush bugs. #https://roadsendnaturalist.com/ #macrophotography

The star was this Hickory Horned Devil, even though it (of course) stopped feeding and started turning blueish the night before the big event...this pic was from the day before.

Unicorns are real! This Unicorn Caterpillar is a leaf edge feeder, settling in to the chewed portion and looking like the edge of a leaf.

One to definitely not touch, the Puss Moth Caterpillar. Tufts of stinging spines under the "hairs" pack a powerful punch that can cause severe pain.
