Our tools and techniques shape what we do. Make no mistake, our data models formed around 1950s and later military logistics and manufacturing.
The world we see is partly driven by what these tools can and can't do.
Paradigms shape perception, and the rest resembles chaos.

head of six companies, including a major U.S. military communications contractor and a company that puts wires in paraplegics' brains, wants you to know that he considers filing fraudulent business records to be a trivial matter

A crazy experience — I lost my earbuds in a remote town in Chile, so tried buying a new pair at the airport before flying out. But the new wired, iPhone, lightning-cable headphones didn't work. Strange.

So I went back and swapped them for another pair, from a different brand.

This memo was sent this month.

My feeling is unless Microsoft's senior leadership actually *does something* about reviewing Recall, the US Government and others should consider they haven't taken the CSRB report seriously at all.

The next time an engineer tells me product positioning doesn’t matter I’m going to remind them that we let squirrels live because they have a fluffy tail.

Squirrels are rats. With a fluffy tail. Messaging matters.

This stretch of Fremont has like 7 CHP officers chilling out. We also passed a CHP officer coming down the on-ramp. As i've said for years, traffic enforcement being used as investigative arrests rather than blanket traffic law contributes to road deaths

imo the really crazy bit is that we can make logic gates out of silicon that are like *impossibly* reliable, like “only one in 10^15 operations goes wrong” level of relability. unfathomable.

EXCITING!!

Four people on Discord have, after years of searching, found where the original 'The Backrooms' creepypasta image was taken. Break in the story came when they found the image's filename

Silicon Valley is the place where you get rich without creating jobs. It's run by investors who *hate* the idea of paying people. That's why AI is so exciting for Silicon Valley types: it lets them fantasize about making humans obsolete.

What is automation...simple answer..

Automating a single process. Picking and placing a lid.

Doing the same repetitive task...
60 times per minute....
24 hours a day...
Year after year...
Decade after decade...

One of the ways the FBI works to flout public records laws is to “accidentally” introduce little typos and misspellings into people’s FOIA requests. This will cause a delay of many months, may not be caught by the requester at all, and looks like an innocent error.
