Let’s be clear…the data suggests that schools are unsafe for 82% of LGBTQ+ students…the flipped framing matters and we need to do better.

Last week, Senator Jeff Merkley and Mark Takano reintroduced the Equality Act, which would provide nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQI+ people, including LGBTQI+ youth in schools. Click here glsen.us/46qiKiL to tell congress: It's Time to Pass the Equality Act!

Folx have been open with me about how they have been harmed and the lasting effects. I am grateful for the message. I ended up spending most of June healing the effects of this past year. Mind/spirit/body kinda healing. My silence is only the stillness of preparation.

In what ways are you paying your “rent” with/alongside English Language Arts and Teacher Education (ELATE) pre-service teachers, classroom teachers, leaders, and communities across @NCTE? #ELATE23 #ELATEgs #TeachingForRacialEquity

If “service is the rent we pay”, how are you critically self-examining your own impact in closing the equity gap in your service work across @NCTE_ELATE, @NCTE, and your communities of service? #ELATE23 #ELATEgs #TeachingForRacialEquity

What are we willing to let go of in order to share the privilege of access and equity across @NCTE, @NCTE_ELATE, and other communities we work with and alongside? #ELATE23 #ELATEgs #TeachingForRacialEquity

This what I aim to do and advocate for with "Embracing Every Hue" -- to use our narratives, especially as BIPOC, to cultivate a true space of healing in our classroom rooted in radical love and criticality. ELATE National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE)

“Grind culture” is not, in fact, where it’s at. Also, what and who exactly are you grinding for and in order to prove?

Deep gratitude for #ELATE23 and deepening meaningful connections with the good folx who are out here doing The Work! Now back to ALL of the writing this summer.

Taking tips from femtors means scheduling a silent retreat for myself for October. Meditation, hiking, rest, journaling, and turning on the away response in August for a week and October for a long weekend.

Grateful to be able to have served MCTE in writing the proposal and serving alongside my DIJE co-chairs @RavenForevamore, Dr. Rosalyn Shahid, and Ben Briere. None of us do the good work alone.

It’s been a season. And I am ready to leave 2023 in my review mirror. I am grateful for the folx who pay attention to my moves and recognize that everything I do is an answer to the question, “How am I being of service?” My heart needs healing and time to answer.
