THREAD: Tomorrow, MPs will vote on Kim Leadbeater MBE MP's private member's bill on assisted suicide. While there are many reasons one might oppose or support AS in principle, it's worthwhile outlining some practical reasons why Kim Leadbeater MBE MP's plans should NOT be legalised in 🇬🇧.

🚨SLIPPERY SLOPE: At Second Reading, Dignity in Dying’s website stated its support for a law that “will remain unchanged”. But the group behind Leadbeater’s Bill has now removed this assurance from its website. If the Bill passes, calls for an expansion will begin immediately.

⚠️A reminder that the assisted suicide Bill is anything but the safest in the world. Please tag in your MP to remind them of the safeguards rejected at Committee Stage. Very few have been added since. The Bill is intentionally loose and puts the vulnerable at risk.

Is there really an anorexia loophole? Yes. And in this video, I explain why. If you’re as tired of hearing me go on about this as I am, you can blame Kevin Yuill for the request.

💥The assisted suicide Bill would change society irreversibly. And yet, the process has been shambolic & Bill supporters’ claims have been alarming from start to finish. This has been Parliament at its worst. Please watch, share & ask your MP to vote NO tomorrow.

That the government’s own lead suicide prevention advisor is so strongly opposed to this bill ought to make MPs think again. Or have we had enough of experts…?

🚨This doctor has done 100s of assisted suicides and gave evidence for the assisted suicide Bill here (x.com/RightToLifeUK/…). He says he’s "never seen a case of coercion"🤔

The Assisted Dying Bill is not fit for purpose. My fellow MPs - if you cannot hand on heart say it contains all required safeguards and won’t harm the vulnerable, you must *not* vote for it tomorrow. This is literally a matter of life and death. There can be no room for doubt.

Opposing the #AssistedDyingBill isn’t being immune to painful patient stories or dismissive of choice. It’s about social responsibility, our duty to help people through despair. About the value we place on human life. 1/2

She didn’t abstain. As Fleur Elizabeth noted, Emily Thornberry voted for this at Second Reading. This seems like a desperate, cynical attempt by either Thornberry or BBC to imply minds are changing in Leadbeater’s favour before tomorrow’s vote. The opposite seems more likely.
