In the end, technological progress is the only thing that matters. The rest is almost entirely irrelevant in any other way than how it affects how science and technology progress. Just time and chance. No one in charge, no one knows what they're doing and it doesn't even matter.

It's disappointing that there will be no more publicly-funded LC research from the US, but the NIH's and other efforts have been so disappointing that it's hard to say whether it even makes a difference. Science progresses only through brute force and chance. It's all chance.

Public Health as currently practiced by our major institutions is pseudoscientific quackery. Badly structured, badly trained, badly led, and lacking both the integrity and the understanding necessary to face increasingly critical threats.

The people making decisions about our lives don't have a damn clue what they are doing. Not one. They work in echo chambers entirely insulated from reality. They are as completely out of their depth as an ape trying to use a computer.
