6. Just like our experience in healthcare with chronic illness is different than that of healthy ppl, out experience as POC is different than that of the Vite people, and rooted in a long past riddled with injustices that still influence how we are perceived & treated today.

5. If we are to have equitable access, we have to consider all of these aspects when advocating for research, funding, changes to health care systems, etc.

4. The barriers to care are compounded. People face chronic illness on top of already being discriminated in health care, on top of facing financial challenges, on top of lack of access to education, on top of food & housing insecurity, on top of lack of family support.

3. People may be reading this and rolling their eyes: “here are the racists complaints again” . The same you experience from healthy individuals when they don’t believe your experience with your illness. Just because they don’t live through it doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen.

2. Yesterday. I heard a well meaning, well respected MCAS doctor say “when you go to the doctor, don’t dress up and try to look your best bc you don’t look sick“ - my thought was “that May apply if you are not a POC, bc the worse you look the more you are discriminated against”
