One thing for *anyone* working in software engineering to keep in mind: We are not paid a lot because sw eng is more complex than other engineering fields. Hardware engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering are just as (if not more) complex. It's about demand.

The Messianic illusion is that a single person σωτήρ (or, worse, a single action) will come to save the world, fix society, improve the economy, rescue the company, etc. But advance comes from distributed progressive improvements, via negativa, mostly thanks to funerals.

I am back to writing again. This time about what in my opinion is DevOps. And it is probably more complicated than you think. rejmank.com/post/intro-to-… Thanks for the feedback to Miroslav Bajtoš and to @cngroup_cz for forcing me to prepare something for our internal conference.

Generally, I think software/data engineers and businesses have been far too blithe about the risks of collecting lots of data. This should be a wake-up call. When data becomes potentially incriminating, we must find a way of not collecting or not storing it in the first place.

We switched from cloud formation to aws-cdk and the experience is great. Starting to be a proponent of general-purpose languages for a configuration

The UK and London has seen the biggest heatwave of all time hit thanks to global warming. The impact extends to the Cloud: London data centers are offline both for Google and also Oracle as cooling systems can not cope with the heat. (Thanks Miguel for the tip.)

Why I don't use Scrum to manage my Remote Teams? TL;DR: It adds at least 8 hours of meetings per Sprint. That's 2 full days of lost productivity, per team member, per month! This is what I do instead 👇

"Máte na rukách krv, vy všetci a všetky, ktorí nás roky chcete zakázať vo verejnom priestore. Zasiali ste nenávisť a jej plodom je smrť dvoch ľudí. A spoluzodpovední ste aj vy, čo roky mlčíte a dovolíte vašim blízkym, aby slová útočili a zraňovali." dennikn.sk/3056686/roman-…

how to debug your api gateway > lambda integration - turn on api gateway logs - manually add the lambda requestId to api gateway logs with "integrationRequestId":"$context.integration.requestId" thank me later the default logs don't do this, and I haven't seen it anywhere else

Many are getting this wrong. It does not mean that being a poor student is a road to success. It means that being a poor student is not an impediment to future success. Logic is hard.

The richest man on the planet, whose lavish upbringing was financed by an emerald slave mine in Zambia, wants you to believe that growing awareness of systemic inequality and injustice is the number one existential threat. I wonder why.
