Today marks the beginning of Veterans’ week. It’s a time to remember those who fought for the freedoms we have today. It's a time to remember those who never made it back home and those who came home with physical and emotional scars from their service. #CanadaRemembers

We were out moose hunting with nohtawiy (my father) & nitikwatim (my 9 year old nephew)& out of no where he asks my dad “mosom (grandfather), when you were in residential school, how did you escape?” Nohtawiy thought about it & said “I couldn’t.” That was a sad, powerful moment.

As we approach Orange Shirt Day, it’s important to understand its history. The orange shirt refers to the new shirt that Phyllis Webstad was gifted from her grandmother for her first day at St. Joseph’s Mission Residential School in B.C. #OrangeShirtDay #TRW2023 1/2

Upon her arrival, her clothes, including her new orange shirt, were taken away and never given back. For Phyllis, the color orange came to symbolize her painful experiences at the #ResidentialInstitution. To learn more, visit: ow.ly/PkTN50PPpZ4. #EveryChildMatters 2/2
