In Antananarivo, Madagascar, heavy rains have led to #flooding in many parts of the region! More than 12,000 people have lost their homes or material possessions. Malagasy Red Cross and BNGRC MADAGASCAR are providing material and technical support to affected communities.
Health conditions, material losses, destruction of habitat and livelihood… These aspects have been assessed by the Malagasy Red Cross amongst the 9091 people displaced after the heavy rains in Antananarivo, #Madagascar. The gaps will be addressed within the national response.
#TropicalStormAna has affected more than 67,000 people in #Madagascar. Malagasy Red Cross continues to work with IFRC, Deutsches Rotes Kreuz and BNGRC MADAGASCAR to support affected communities.
Tropical Cyclone #Batsirai is now 160km from #Mauritius, bringing heavy rains over the island. Mauritius Red Cross has activated preparedness plans, mobilized the Branch Disaster Response Team and is sensitizing people.
The impact of tropical cyclone #Batsirai has already been felt in #Mauritius. At least: 1600 households w/o electricity. 138 people in emergency shelter. 1 death. 30 Mauritius Red Cross volunteers are supporting response actions as part of the country’s emergency operations.
Tropical cyclone #Batsirai is expected to make landfall in Masomeloka (Atsinanana region), #Madagascar on 5 Feb at 11am. A green alert has been issued for 17 regions. Heavy rains & winds are expected in the capital city. Malagasy Red Cross teams are supporting preparedness actions.
After the passage of #CycloneBatsirai, a blue alert has been maintained for 10 regions and 7 vulnerable districts in #Madagascar. BNGRC MADAGASCAR has reported 10 deaths and over 43,000 displaced people in 180 sites. The Malagasy Red Cross is providing support to affected communities.
Lalaoarisoa Josianne has been a Malagasy Red Cross volunteer since 1997. This was her first time seeing the amount of damage after a cyclone when #CycloneBatsirai hit Mananjary, #Madagascar on 5 February. “People are really going through tough and crippling times,” she said.
Intense tropical cyclone #Emnati is expected to make landfall on the eastern coastline of #Madagascar on Tuesday. Areas between Vatomandry and Mananjary are expected to be the most affected. Malagasy Red Cross teams are on high alert.
In the district of Mananjary, #Madagascar, the population is still reeling from the impact of #CycloneBatsirai, yet they must now prepare for the arrival of cyclone #Emnati. Malagasy Red Cross teams are sensitizing the communities on how to stay safe as the storm approaches.
