Typefully : Weirdly emotional day for me today

GitLab IPOs & naturally folks talk about GitHub & our acquisition

& as the executive primarily responsible for the product turnaround & the architect of the sale, I have major pos/neg feelings on it it all

Twitter Web App : Since this false assumption is still distressingly common: In software delivery, there is no speed vs stability trade-off

We now have 7yrs of data from tens of thousands of responses globally. Attached graph from cloud.google.com/devops/state-o…, previous years at devops-research.com/research.html#…

Twitter Web App : Proud to have been a co-author of this IT Revolution white paper on Shared Services.

(Among tons of great content, it includes some interesting learnings and anecdotes from Google, including internal open source, 'choose to use', and internal chargeback)

Twitter Web App : I am always surprised at how long it takes to write a new talk. even when I can repurpose sections of previous talks as I pull together a new narrative... gah it's so much time.

even when i reuse an old talk (when explicitly requested), tailoring it to context takes TIME

Twitter Web App : reminder that if you are someone who identifies as a marginalized gender, and you are thinking of giving up on programming, please DM me. I will connect you to some SW dev teams who are working in very different ways from most of the industry.

Twitter Web App : Rule 1 for humans: The easier it is for people to do something, the more they will do it.
Corollary to rule 1: If you want people to do more of something make it easier, not harder.

Examples: speaking up, being vulnerable, taking initiative, reporting problems...

Twitter Web App : There are a few pervasive fallacies that make software hard:
1. We need accurate, precise estimates
2. Low output is motivation-based
3. We need to get more work started
4. Throughput comes from isolated individual coders
5. We need to program faster

Sprout Social : 'I love QCon Software Development Conferences 2006-2021. It's one of my very favorite conferences; it covers the gamut of what's interesting in . I always love attending.' - Randy ShoupeBay
