Excellent contribution from Sheila Gilheany about the marketing of alcohol - which is no ordinary product. We need to start seeing alcohol for what it is - a psychoactive substance, and treat it accordingly. Tobacco products would not be promoted on live TV in same way.

At some point we will look back in amazement that alcohol sports sponsorship was ever allowed. Tobacco sponsorship would not be countenanced now.

In considering proposals to increase licensing hours in Ireland through #SaleofAlcoholBill , important to look at outcomes in other jurisdictions.
