No one in there right mind who actually played 16 with their ears open would say it didn’t have music variety. It’s certainly not as experimental as FF14 is, yet, Soken still managed his style with what he was given. You just don’t hear medieval games with an OST like 16.

I can’t say enough about how absolutely peak Shadowbringers and Endwalker is. Not just as a Final Fantasy, but as a story. In HOUR 70 of the pre-Heavensward grind, I believed there was no way it could live up to the hype & be worth it. It was. Don’t let those doubts stop you.

There's something almost ineffable about these two 90s JRPG openings. You simply can't recapture this kind of tonal cohesion anymore. Despite their simple animation by modern standards, they function as a unified emotional composition where music and imagery are inseparable.

Two of my favorite soulslikes from last year tied to studios likely being dissolved. One nailed combat feel, the other had DS1-like lvl design. Genuinely disheartening to see teams behind work of this caliber lose the chance to build on ideas that still had real room to evolve.
