On this day, in 1940, Indian revolutionary Udham Singh shot dead the former governor of Punjab Michael O’Dwyer at Caxton Hall in London. O'Dwyer was responsible for the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar where British troops fired on a peaceful crowd, killing hundreds.
