There needs to be a statutory duty of care for those in higher education. Anu’s tragic case must be learned from. Anu was failed by his university. Parents trust these institutions and that trust needs to be repaid with responsibility.

A privilege and an honour to speak last night in Parliament in memory of Oskar Carrick who died by suicide two years ago in his halls of residence at uni. I wholeheartedly support his parents' campaign for universities to have a statutory duty of care for their students.

Our mental health system is broken. When young people fall between the gaps, the consequences can be devastating. Today in Parliament I spoke about Rory, who died by suicide while at University. His parents are fighting to stop the same thing happening to any other family.
