There is no question that trauma causes psychological distress and PTSD. But most potentially traumatic events do not inflict long-term psychological issues on those that endure them, and the same event that causes severe distress in one person may leave another unscathed.

Once in a while I find myself in a contradiction. I still agree completely with the tweet below, but right now I just do not care what happens to a certain tiktoker who seems to enjoy hurting young LGBT people.

In a sane timeline, we'd look back on the past few years as the era of Peak Trauma Discourse. Instead we will endure another decade or so, only now with politicians cynically deploying the terms in manipulative pursuit of power.

I know this isn't a novel observation, but it's astounding how often people will hear some psychotherapy term, decide on its definition without looking it up, and then just start using it all the time. Example: 'Trauma bonding' does not mean 'we both went through something bad'!

Inventing a new thing called 'being nicepilled.' It's where you treat everyone well unless & until they're mean to you. The goal is to cynically manipulate everyone around you into enjoying your company and being nice to you. Sound soft? It's actually the most evil shit there is.
