There is only one good reason for Rishi Sunak to call a general election on July 4: on inflation, interest rates, Rwanda, party unity, the polls, everything, he’s been told now is as good as it ever gets for the Tories. That’s some stark realisation #GE2024

Why because there has been an announcment from Downing St 4 hours ago does BBC News (UK) have to broadcast the 10 pm news from there rather than the studio

My Election Day Monologue on Times Radio. In praise of British democracy. It’s election day in the United Kingdom, a seminal event we too often take for granted. We also do it in a very British way.  There will be no armed guards at the polling stations. No intimidating mobs.

Our Prime Minister dresses in clothes costing £16,200 and wears glasses costing £2,485 given to him by Lord Waheed Alli. Keir Starmer's salary is £166,786 and someone else buys him his clothes yet he thinks pensioners shouldn't get £200 to help keep warm this winter

The estimated cost of Brexit in annual lost tax revenue is £40 billion. The Treasury briefs there is now a £40 billion fiscal adjustment to be made. Of course other decisions ( the Tory NI cuts) have contributed. Nonetheless October 30th is fairly the Brexit Budget Reckoning .
